I gave notice at my job. Many people exclaim in shock “in this economy?” after learning of this. I understand their worry, but seeing as we have one brief life to live, I am going to not let the mistakes of Washington or Wall Street effect my life decisions. I’ve always wanted to code video games and desktop applications on my own, for myself. I hold by the adage that the best software you will write, is the software where you are the target user.
I am learning that there are a lot of hurdles to overcome so I plan to use this web space to document the process. Going from full time developer to indie software developer is going to be hard, and I am downright scared. I am also uprooting and moving from one coast to another.
Hopefully someone will find the oncoming mess of code, rants, and photographs useful, if at least to serve as a warning.
San Fran or bust?
Depends on where the G.F. gets assigned to. She is a travel nurse but she requested California.
You on the west coast these days?
Nope, still Boston area but I’ve been thinking about some other places. Just got back from a vaca in San Francisco though.
“In this economy” is the most BS excuse phrase ever. Would the following phrases ever instill the same kind of kneejerk fear response in people?
I am getting married. (who would really say—’in this economy?’ except the Scroogiest anti-love Grinchass)
I am having a kid. (kid haters maybe)
I’m thinking of naked bungee jumping on national television. (ok—just had to throw that last one it there cuz it tickled me).
Life = short.
Rock ON and don’t look back. Always remember that there are baby steps in between the leaps of faith and ENJOY THE RIDE.
I think your first video game should be based on leaving the rat race to go find better cheese in the wide, wild world.
